About Low Maintenance Lawns
Lawns play a part in any home - they give children, pets and people play space. In the past - they were a pain to maintain. We stopped fertilizing, watering and mowing our lawn and orchard areas.
We still may run the chicken tractors over the area to clean out bugs, trim any high points and fertilize it but handles the traffic fairly well for the most part.

Some of things we looked for in a lawn product was that the grass was short enough naturally to not harbor pests like snakes, rodents or the like. Further from our living space we can "naturalize" the areas with wild flowers and native grasses but we want our immediate area near the house and buildings visually "tidy".
We still mow the grasses a few times a year and we did weed control the first 2 years. We want to try using cracked corn as a weed/feed but have been reluctant as it might attract rodents. More weeds are annual so I guess if it got to be a problem, we would get a bagger for the mower.
